How to Track and Film Racket Sports with Live Heart Rate Intensity
Record tennis, pickleball, or badminton matches with live heart rate, intensity bar, and calorie burn rate overlaid on your iPhone — no extra hardware needed.
Racket sports are cardiovascular events. A competitive pickleball match, a hard tennis session, a long badminton rally — your heart rate moves constantly through a wide range, and the intensity of any given rally is invisible to anyone watching. A heart rate overlay fixes that.
Two overlays built for racket sports
Match Intensity
The Match Intensity overlay shows heart rate, a dynamic intensity bar (LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH based on your zone), calories, and elapsed match time. The intensity bar is a uniquely useful feature for racket sports — it directly answers 'how hard is this point?' without requiring the viewer to interpret zone numbers.
Rally Burn
The Rally Burn overlay focuses on calorie burn rate (kcal per minute) alongside heart rate, peak HR, and average HR for the session. This is the overlay to use if your content is about the fitness side of racket sports — showing that a competitive pickleball session burns as many calories per minute as a Zone 3 run.
Filming setup for racket sports
- Tripod at the back fence or baseline captures the full court and both players
- Side-on tripod captures lateral movement and rally exchanges more dramatically
- A clip mount on a fence post gives a fixed angle without blocking the sideline
- Portrait mode works well for sharing — landscape for YouTube highlights
Why pickleball content especially benefits from this
Pickleball has an image problem with people who've never played it — it looks slow. A video showing a player at 165 BPM, MEDIUM-to-HIGH intensity throughout a 45-minute game, burning 500 calories, immediately corrects that impression. The data is the argument. For pickleball creators, this is among the most effective content types for growing an audience.
