How to Record Cycling Videos with Live Speed and Stats on iPhone

A guide to filming indoor or outdoor cycling sessions with live speed, heart rate, distance, and power data overlaid — all from your iPhone.

Cycling content is some of the most data-rich in fitness. Speed, power, cadence, heart rate, distance — there's a lot happening at once, and the best cycling videos make that data visible. If you film on your iPhone, you can have all of this on screen while you ride.

Indoor cycling (Peloton, spin bike, trainer)

For indoor rides, prop your iPhone in front of you or to the side. Start a Cycling workout on Apple Watch and open FitCam. The cycling overlay shows heart rate zone, current BPM, calories, and elapsed time. You can angle the phone to capture both you on the bike and the overlay data clearly.

This setup works great for posting spin class updates, Peloton ride recaps, or at-home trainer sessions. Viewers immediately see your effort level rather than having to imagine it.

Outdoor cycling

For outdoor rides, mount your iPhone on your handlebars or a chest mount. The FitCam cycling overlay adds speed, distance, heart rate, and heart rate zone directly to the footage. The bright overlay text is designed to remain readable in outdoor sunlight.

Using the Video Editor for action camera footage

Many cyclists use GoPros or other action cameras for ride footage. FitCam's built-in Video Editor lets you import that existing footage and sync your Apple Watch workout data to it. You can trim clips, sync the workout timeline, and add the same overlays — then export a fully annotated cycling video without needing a separate desktop app.

What a good cycling overlay shows

  • Current speed (km/h or mph)
  • Distance covered
  • Heart rate and zone
  • Elapsed time
  • Calories burned

Sharing cycling videos

Cycling content performs well on Strava (for the community), Instagram Reels (for reach), and YouTube (for longer ride highlights). FitCam videos export in standard MP4 format compatible with all platforms. For Strava upload you can share directly from the Camera Roll.
